My name is Hitomi Kanagawa. I lived in Japan all my life. But, because of falling grades, my parents thought it was best for me to catch up in school by sending me to the United States. I go to Arlington Cypress high school. It’s very different from schools where I am from. The language and culture are extremely different. When I first came here I thought it would be impossible to fit in, however somehow I managed.

One day as I was catching up on my studies, I couldn’t help but to stare at my pencil. I had watched a video online about a person moving a pencil with their mind. For some reason I wanted to try it. I gave it a couple tries but found out I couldn’t do it. After giving up and studying some more, I gave it one last shot. To my complete shock and surprise, I somehow made the pencil shake. I jumped back thinking I had just played a trick on myself by accidently breathing on it or moving the bed. I tried it again and it began to shake again but slower. I must be seeing thing I thought to myself.

I began to practice and spending my time towards this ability. Often I would practice at school while nobody was watching. The teacher would always wonder why I kept dropping my pencil. That was along time ago. I have come a long ways since then. I can move light objects now relatively simple. It made my first tries seem like a piece of cake. Although I’m still fascinated by the ability, I still needed to focus on my school work.

Hitomi walked down the street. She walked to the front door steps of her home and opened the door. “Tadaima.” She said softly. “Iterashai” Her grandmother responded.

She walked into her room and closed the door. She took a stretch and then fell backwards onto her bed.

In a tank top and pajama pants she began to study her math. As she got tired of working problems she looked at her pencil and squinted her eyes. The pencil wiggled until lifting into the air. She then touched it and it began to spin as if it was somehow in zero gravity. She smiled. “Hitomi, time for supper.” Her grandmother announced. “Coming.” She replied dropping the pencil on her bed.

While walking to school the next day, Hitomi looked up at the blue sky.

It took me a while to adapt to this new way of life. Things are different here. Speaking the language was the worst part of being stuck here in the U.S. I never knew English could be so hard to speak. I feel like everyone makes fun of me because of my accent. I guess it cannot be helped.

Hitomi stares out of the bus from the window. She watched as the lines on the road repeat past her view.

While walking down the hall at school with her books in her hand, she turns around the corner and a guy bumps into her, knocking her books onto the ground. “Watch where you’re going nerd girl!” A guy yells. The person was wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, and red hair. He kept walking as Hitomi stared at him as he walked away.

Some people can be so rude and mean here. Will I ever make friends?
Hitomi stared out the window while holding her head up with both of her hands clenched up against her chin.

I wonder what I can use this ability for. Maybe I should think like that, it would be selfish of me I’m sure. Just think what others might think of me.
Suddenly Hitomi heard a creaking sound from behind her. She looked back but discovered nothing.

That’s odd. I thought I heard someone just then. … I should pay attention. I need to try harder in order to catch up.

While heading home and walking towards the bus area, Hitomi saw the guy who bumped into her leaning against the wall and talking to some girls. Who would want to be friends with a guy like that. Hitomi thought to herself as she walked by.

Hitomi sat down at one of the empty seats on the bus. She looked out the window and leaned her head against it. As the bus began to move a man caught her eye. He was looking at her and smiling. When she turned her head to look at him, he was gone. She then leaned against the window once more and began to day dream.

Hitomi sat back in the bath tub and washed her feet as she used her telekinetic ability to scrub her back. She sat back in the bath and looked up at the bathroom light. I wish I was back at home. She thought to herself as she sunk into the tub of warm water blowing bubbles gently from her mouth.

The next day was raining so Hitomi used an umbrella to walk to the bus.
While the teacher was instructing on the class room whiteboard, Hitomi lifted her hand. “Yes? The teacher asked. “Can I be excused to go to dsa badsroom?” Hitomi asked. The teacher nodded and Hitomi got up.

While Hitomi was walking in the halls to go to the lady’s room, she unexpectedly found the guy who had shoved her to the ground. “I have your money Roy, it’s not with me, but I have it.” The guy pleaded as Roy had him pushed against the lockers. Roy pulled out a zippo lighter and without holding the trigger down, he made the fire come out from the lighter’s muzzle. However, from a side view in Hitomi’s perspective it was coming out from his hand. Roy looked over to Hitomi. Hitomi pulled around the corner in shock thinking he was on fire, but knowing for a fact that he wasn’t. She then backed off the wall slowly and began power walking down the hall to another direction. She walked into the girls bathroom and closed the door. “Sore wa nande?” She stated out loud. Peeking outside of the door, she looked to see if he was gone. “Going somewhere nerd girl?” A mysterious voice stated. Roy walked out from one of a stalls. “You should really watch where you’re going, you could get hurt.” He stated. Hitomi looked over to a trashcan that was on the countertop near the sink. She found it hard to concentrate, so the trashcan was only wobbling. Roy looked down at his hand and with a snap, his fingers caught on fire. Hitomi then took a deep breath and in ten seconds she made the trash can fly at him. Roy dodged the trash can and began to walk towards her. “Nice magic trick, I also have some tricks of my own. I’ll start with making your clothes disappear.” Roy stated walking towards her. Hitomi tried reaching for the door nob but couldn’t find it. As Roy walked closer, she began to panic even more. When she finally got the door open, Roy slammed the door back shut and leaned against it. “You aren’t going anywhere until I see what’s underneath.” Roy said once more. “Why don’t you start with yourself?” A mysterious voice replied. Suddenly Roy flew back against the bathroom door. A mysterious man appeared from thin air. Hitomi dodged and slid out of the way as Roy’s face slammed into the door above her. She then grabbed and armed herself with the trashcan. The guy Roy was fighting was also Japanese looking. He wore a white and blue striped jacket, black pants, spiked hair and zig zap makeup on his face. He looked like a guy who would be found in a visual kei Japanese rock band. Roy pulled out a hand full of fire and tried to hit him with it, but missed. The guy then pushed Roy and he fell out of the bathroom door and into the hall. People circled around to watch them fight. “Fight, fight, fight!” They shouted with amusement. How barbaric! Hitomi thought to herself as she pushed through the circling crowd. Roy kicked the mysterious guy and people began to shout even louder. “Kick his clown face in! Rip I’m apart! Tear him a new one!” The crowd cheered. When the guy looked to find Hitomi was not around, he moved really fast and moved around the guy, with one sweeping maneuver, he suplexed Roy into the ground. Everyone laughed as they became wild with excited. Hitomi ran down the hall and past the corner, stopping to catch her breath, she watched as two armed police officers ran down the hall past her. What was that about? She thought to herself. Then she heard a footstep behind her and leaned against the wall. “Please correct me, I think I just saved your wellbeing.” The mysterious guy stated. “Ahhh!...” She tried to scream before the guy covered her mouth. “Stupid, I’m not here to hurt you! Oh man, females.” The guy stated. He then uncovered her mouth. “Fine scream all you want, I just helped you back there.” The guy stated. He walked backwards and leaned against the stalls. Hitomi stared at him, not knowing what to do. “The name is Kenjiro. I had my eye on your for a while now. Two weeks to be exact. I followed you. I hope you don’t mind.” He continued. “I don’t understand. Why?” Hitomi asked. “Why not, I had nothing better to do, besides it’s your psychic presents that gave it away.” Kenjiro replied. “My psychic presence?” Hitomi asked. “Duh, it’s what you get when you work on your mental abilities.” Kenjiro responded. Hitomi looked puzzled. “Jees, you really are clueless. Hm, fine. I’ll let you in on the details. I’m surprised you weren’t discovered by anyone else since your presence is so strong.” Kenjiro replied. “How’s that? And how do you know all this?” Hitomi asked. “I figured you’d say that. The more powerful your mental abilities, the more psychic presence you get. Those who have strong mental abilities also can sense this presence. There are many people in the world with this ability that challenge others to obtain superiority. That is, because we are in the United States. I know this because, I’m a jumper. I can go anywhere at any time. I guess you can say, I’m really good at using my ability, not to brag or anything.” Kenjiro stated turning around looking cool. “I still don’t understand. Show me.” Hitomi replied very curious. “I rather not, you might call me a liar if I do it.” Kenjiro joked. Suddenly he disappeared and reappeared behind Hitomi. Hitomi stood straight up in surprise. Wow, this is crazy. How am I supposed to react to this? What is going on? Hitomi asked herself. “Convinced now?” Kenjiro asked. Hitomi nodded. “How is my presence strong then?” Hitomi asked. “I’m not too sure of that either. I haven’t seen anything worthy of being amazed. Maybe you have some sort of hidden talent you can use but, haven’t, discovered?” Kenjiro replied. Hitomi looked down. “Whatever the case is, I’m sure you’ll figure it out. I have faith in you. I got’ta run, I’ll catch you around. Hitomi-kun.” Kenjiro stated as he instantly disappeared. Hitomi leaned against the wall and lowered herself to the floor. … Psychic presence? Hidden abilities? What is going on? She asked herself again.

The next day at school, Hitomi walked out of the bus wearing a hoody. She was hoping Roy wouldn’t notice her. As soon as she walked past a corner, Roy was behind her. “Where’s your boyfriend? I want to see want he truly is capable of.” Roy stated. Hitomi didn’t look over her shoulder, instead she pulled down her hoody and turned around. “He’s not my boyfriend you pervert!” Then she screamed and tried to hit him. Roy dodged her and backed up a little bit. “You…” Roy yelled before taking another extreme hit to the face from thin air. He barreled down the hall until landing flat on his stomach. “Good morning to you too hot head.” Kenjiro replied. “About time, we picked up where we left off. You had me worried I would never get another fair match.” Roy said lifting himself from the ground. Other students began to gather around. “Maybe when you stop getting hit by my ‘Hello, nice to meet you again’ punches, you’ll be able to think straight.” Kenjiro said laughing. “Try and say that when you’re unconscious, loud mouth.” Roy stated once more before getting up on his feet and running up to Kenjiro. “Sutop! Don’t fight no moru. Please.” Hitomi yelled. Roy and Kenjiro looked at her at the same time. “Why should we listen to you nerd girl?” Roy asked giving her a death glare. “Becoz we are both human. We are betta then this.” Hitomi replied. “All you do is fight and it’s sickening. Why noto be kind and nice for a change. You are like little children! Fighting for no reason!” Hitomi said the best way she could in her broken English. “I’m never going to listen to you filthy mother fu…” Roy stated before getting interrupted. “She’s right, there is no point in us fighting.” Kenjiro responded. Roy stared at Hitomi and then Kenjiro. “Whatever. You guys don’t know anything.” Roy stated before walking away. Hitomi watched as Roy walked away through the crowd. Deep inside she began to understand. She knew Roy was in extreme pain. Kenjiro walked up to Hitomi. “So how about a date?” Kenjiro joked. Hitomi said nothing and pulled out her umbrella and began to walk out into the rain. “I guess that’s a no.” Kenjiro stated before sighing and disappearing.

For the next week, Roy was nowhere to be found. Hitomi would have brief encounters with Kenjiro as she walked in the halls at school. She couldn’t help but to think about Roy. Why was he so angry and mean. Nothing made sense about him. She often wondered why.
I continued to work on my telekinetic abilities. After looking around for after school activities, I took interest in band and theatre; therefore, joined the theatre club, thinking it would break me from my shyness with others. I also joined band because I already knew how to play the cello from my middle school in Japan. While in the theatre club, I began to make friends. Paula, a girl from South America who was also involved in modern dance was the first person who I instantly had a connection with after being her partner one day. Everything seemed to be coming together smoothly, until one day when I was in theatre class.

As I was rehearsing a scene, playing the part of a shy maid, a strange guy kicked the doors open to the theatre. “It seems I found you.” The guy said to himself. With two large iron stuck in concrete equipped in his hands, he began to charge at Hitomi. Hitomi knew for a fact he wasn’t there to watch the rehearsal. Hitomi put her hands together and then took a breath. With a loud bending sound, a chunk of the theatre ceiling hurled towards the guy. The guy swiped it away using his makeshift weapons. The students began to run off the stage. Paula ran towards Hitomi and reached for her arm but Hitomi hesitated to notice. As the guy leaped onto the stage with an exaggerated height, Hitomi put her arms in front of her ready to take the hit, both Roy and Kenjiro jumped out from behind Hitomi and in midair punched the guy in the face, knocking him off the stage. Both Roy and Kenjiro got ready to attack once more. “Nice to see I’m not the one punching you today.” Kenjiro announced to Roy. “Cram it, we can continue this another time.” Toy replied. The guy climbed back on stage and Roy ran up to the guy and slid on the stage, landing a sliding kick to the face. Kenjiro teleported behind the guy and jumped kicked him as he slid off the stage. The strange guy didn’t seem to even be bothered by the hits. “He’s tough. He must have a weakness” Kenjiro announced. “Who cares.” Roy replied. The guy began to swing his weapons around and strike at Roy and Kenjiro.

“They’re really going to hurt each other. I need to do something.” Hitomi said to herself. She then looked up and had an idea. She rushed towards the stage curtain.

Roy leaped over one of the guy’s low strikes, but then got kicked in midair. He flew back and onto one of the theatre seats. He seemed unable to get back up, because of the pain in his chest and having the wind knocked out of him. “You’re only getting in my way. Dip sh.” The guy said before getting cut off. “Hey freak! You seemed to be bent for no reason, mind telling us why?” Kenjiro asked. “None of your business clown.” The guy responded. Suddenly Kenjiro teleported punching him in the gut. To his surprise, the punch did nothing. The guy hugged him and Kenjiro smiled knowing for a fact he was in a rough situation. “Try this!” Hitomi yelled as she threw sand bags the stranger’s direction. The bags flew past the guy and the guy began to laugh. However, Hitomi held out her hands and pulled them towards her as if pulling a heavy invisible object. The sand bags returned and used the ropes attached to the sandbags to spin around the guy in a circle. The ropes began to ties themselves around the guy. Kenjiro kicked off the guy and watched as the ropes began to tie him from head to toe. Roy got back up and began to walk slowly towards him. “You waste of food, filthy piece of garbage. Say your prayers.” Roy said before curb stomping him to the floor unconscious. Paula saw the entire event and couldn’t believe her eyes. Roy sat back down on one of the seats on the first row. Hitomi walked up to Kenjiro and Roy and then made a deep bow. “Thank you.” She said softly. “ Kenjiro returned the bow as Roy felt embarrassed and ignored her. “I don’t know how to thank you.” She said very humblingly. “It’s not a problem. You did most of the work.” Kenjiro replied. “Whatever.” Roy replied getting up off the seat and walking down the isle with his hands in his pockets. “I hope someone cleans this mess up, because I know the school won’t do it.” He continued before walking out the theatre entrance. Hitomi looked down and blushed. “We’ll be around.” Kenjiro stated smiling before disappearing. “Girl, who is your friend and why is he with Roy?” Paula asked in a playful tone. “Nostuing.” Hitomi replied.

Later that evening, Hitomi moved her feet back and forth on her bed as she did her math homework. She felt very happy. Above her were notebooks, pencils, textbooks, and many other items hovering and spinning in a circle. Suddenly there was a knock on the window. At first she thought she was hearing things and grabbed her cello as a weapon as she approached the window. When she looked outside, Kenjiro suddenly appeared in front of her. “Hey. Um, open up.” Kenjiro stated as if hiding something.

He soon teleported into her room. “Ah yes, the typical pink and white.” Kenjiro stated looking around the room. “If grandmasda sees you, I could get in a lot of trouberu.” Hitomi replied trying to shove him out the window. “Get’s you butt out of my way clown.” Roy stated as he climbed through the window. “It’s funny to see you climb through a girls window, it’s very ungentleman-like.”  Kenjiro joked. “Say it again and I’ll blindfold you with dental floss and strangle you to death with your own bare hands.” Roy responded in a very angry tone. “Dis is the second story. How you get up here?” Hitomi asked. “He’s hanging from the roof. Wait let me check.” Kenjiro said before dissapearng and reappearing again. “Yup, still hanging from the roof.” Kenjiro joked. “Why are you in my bedroom?” Hitomi asked again. Roy climbed through the window and laid back against her bed trying to catch his breath. Kenjiro took a deep breath and sat on the bed. Roy stared at the carpet. “Go head big guy. Say it.” Kenjiro stated looking down at Roy. “I’ve been kicked out and I have no place to stay. Can I stay here with you? …It’s only until things clear up back at home.” Roy said feeling very embarrassed. Hitomi didn’t say anything, her mind was completely blank. Why should I let the most worst and terrible mannered person stay in my room. If my mom finds out, she will be ashamed of me. “I cannot.” Hitomi replied. She walked to the other side of her room and looked out the window. “My culture is bery different from yoursu. I don’t want this burden on my family.” She replied. Kenjiro looked down and smiled. Roy looked away feeling ashamed. Suddenly, Hitomi heard footsteps walk towards her room. “Is Grandmasda, oh no!” She jumped at Kenjiro trying to get him to hide, but he smiled as Hitomi shook him around. The door opened and Hitomi’s grandmother walked in. “You should consider their offer.” She stated. Hitomi was surprised, then she looked at Kenjiro. He shrugged his hands. “Betrayal!” She yelled while shaking him violently. Roy found himself also confused. “Yeah, I told her. She agreed to it.” Kenjiro stated while smiling tremendously.

What has my grandmother gotten herself into? Why is this happening to me?

After Roy took a shower, he sat on her bed shirtless as he dried off his hair. Hitomi sat like a cat on her desk chair fully conscious there was a guy in her room. “You should always be afraid of me, because I don’t care what you or anyone else thinks.” Roy stated tossing the towel into her dirty laundry bin. “You don’t have to sleep with your butt against the wall. I have no interest in Asians.” Roy stated before climbing down onto the bed Hitomi’s grandmother made for him. Hitomi then leaned down and looked at him, he had already shut his eyes and began to sleep.

The next morning, Hitomi woke up to find Roy sleeping on the floor and Kenjiro sleeping next to her on the bed. “Ah!” She screamed and huddled against the wall, she then kicked Kenjiro onto the floor. While falling to the floor, Kenjiro fell onto Roy and Roy jumped up very angrily. To Kenjiro’s surprise Roy had bumbed his lips against his. Roy pushed off and was petrified. “If you wanted me so bad, all you had to do is asked.” Kenjiro joked putting his arm against his head and doing a sexy pose. Roy appeared to be having a heart attack. He leaned backwards against the window and without thinking, fell through the window. “Roy!” Hitomi yelled looking out the window. “He’s fine. It’ll take more than that to get rid of his stubborn soul from leaving hos corpse.” Kenjiro stated.

While eating breakfast, Hitomi couldn’t help but stare at Roy. Her grandmother bandaged his head as he ate his bowl of seasoned rice. Kenjiro laughed. Roy looked like he was thinking of ways he was going to murder Kenjiro. Kenjiro blew him a kiss. Roy looked down and clenched his fists.

That morning, Hitomi walked with Roy and Kenjiro to school. It felt unusual she all of a sudden felt like she had roommates. “You know what, this is fun. We all have super crazy abilities. We should start a club or a gang or something.” Kenjiro announced. “Go to hell clown.” Roy replied. “Are you suru that’s a good idea?” Hitomi asked. “I don’t see why not, at least if anyone comes looking for you, they’d have a place to find you and they can go through us first. Sounds good?” Kenjiro asked smiling and putting his arms around Hitomi and Roy. “I said back off clown. You’re pissing me off” Roy replied. “I don’t know, I would have to think about it.” Hitomi stated. “Sure, give it some thought. I think it would be a blast. We’re like the Avengers or something.” Kenjiro replied smiling.

Meanwhile at the school theatre, a small lumpy janitor with a large puffy mustache holding two sets of tool boxes scratches his head while looking at the damages in the school theatre.
